Nickname: The Red Corridors
Danger Ranking: 6E
First Reported: 1979–07–28 — Abandoned municipal building, Aberdeen, WA
Summary:
The Red Corridors are an ever-shifting extradimensional space that appears spontaneously within certain types of large buildings—most commonly schools, hospitals, malls, and disused government offices. These corridors are entirely sealed off from the external world, replacing preexisting hallways overnight. They are narrow, endless, and constructed from red-painted concrete or stained metal, with harsh fluorescent lighting and no discernible source of power.
There are no doors—only intersections. Walking through the space induces increasing feelings of paranoia and unreality. Exploration inevitably results in disorientation, isolation, and psychological degradation. Most who enter are never recovered. Those who are—return changed.
The corridors expand through physical space with no limit and show signs of active intelligence, adapting to explorers and mimicking familiar architecture to lure them deeper. It does not merely trap—it studies.
Known Properties:
- The layout constantly shifts, ensuring explorers cannot backtrack. Mapping attempts show inconsistency even within the same excursion.
- Audible phenomena include footsteps with no visible source, the slow drag of something heavy behind walls, and voices speaking in the explorer's own voice—repeating past regrets or lies.
- Light sources within the space cannot be turned off or broken. Any attempt results in bulbs re-igniting with a louder, higher-pitched buzz.
- Subjects show psychological symptoms matching severe dissociative identity disorder and intrusive ideation after only 10–15 minutes of exposure.
- The further in one ventures, the more "human" the structure becomes—signs of life appear: breathing vents, subtle warmth in the walls, the sound of chewing.
- Entity encounters have been reported: emaciated, eyeless humanoid figures that move only when unobserved. When seen, they freeze mid-stride, inches from the observer, sometimes for hours.
Containment Procedure:
- All confirmed outbreak locations are to be structurally demolished to ground level, with salt saturation applied to foundation soil for a depth of at least 6 meters.
- Monitoring of public buildings through atmospheric particle detectors for trace signature compounds (primarily ferric dust and unknown proteins) is ongoing.
- PARADIGM teams must not enter a Red Corridor breach without a tether, 3+ observers, and an immediate kill-code to detonate the hallway’s anchor point.
- Any recovered survivors must undergo at least three weeks of neuro-linguistic rehab. Several have attempted to return by building replica hallways in basements.
- Under no circumstance should the space be observed through mirrors, as reflections show portions of the corridors and entities not visible to the naked eye.
Encounters:
- 1979–07–28 — Aberdeen, WA: Municipal building janitor disappeared mid-shift. Entire hallway on second floor was found missing. First video probe sent in was lost after 22 minutes. Feed ended with camera slowly turning to face itself.
- 1983–03–09 — Portland, OR: Two student explorers entered abandoned wing of a public school. Only one returned, stating they "never stopped walking" even after leaving. Subject’s shoes were worn through and feet were lacerated beyond recognition.
- 1988–06–16 — Spokane, WA: A researcher re-entered the corridors in his dreams for 19 consecutive nights before flatlining during REM. Autopsy showed massive adrenal hemorrhage and erosion of the occipital lobe.
Recommendation:
The space is not static. It is not passive. It does not sleep.
Let no one walk alone into what watches from the walls. Do not open the hallway where none existed yesterday. It is a corridor, not a place—and a corridor always leads somewhere.
