Echoes_006–1B
Nickname: “Bell Static”
Danger Ranking: 1B
First Reported: 1962-08-10, Crescent Bay, WA
Summary:
Echoes_006–1B, or “Bell Static,” is a persistent audio anomaly first reported in the coastal town of Crescent Bay shortly after the decommissioning of Naval Station K-9. The phenomenon consists of an untraceable high-frequency static interrupted by intermittent bell tones, similar to ship bells or maritime buoys. The anomaly is detectable only through analog radios tuned between 2.3–2.5 MHz during periods of heavy fog or electrical storms.
Local residents long believed the signal to be a remnant of naval communication testing, though analysis shows no modulation pattern consistent with known equipment. The bell tones have been identified as matching the toll pattern used during submarine distress protocol, though no such distress calls were ever officially recorded from the area.
In 1979, a researcher monitoring the signal experienced sudden onset aphasia and short-term memory loss. Since then, prolonged exposure has been shown to cause cognitive drift in subjects, including misremembered personal histories, sudden bilingualism in unlearned languages, and recurring dreams of drowning while inside metallic corridors.
When recorded, the anomaly erases itself from magnetic tape within 72 hours and leaves behind a faint odor of seawater. Digital recordings either fail to capture any sound or are overwritten by reversed Morse sequences spelling “RETURN.”

Containment Procedure:
Establish monitoring station on bluff overlooking Crescent Bay (Node-8). Issue local advisory bulletins warning of “harmful marine interference” on shortwave radios. Suppress civilian investigations via disinformation campaign tied to "weather balloons" and “coastal radar ghosts.”
Field agents to conduct monthly frequency sweeps. Affected individuals are to be relocated and debriefed under mild amnestics. Continued research requires analog audio gear and Faraday shielding.

Recommendation:
Low active threat, but persistent risk of cognitive disruption. Avoid prolonged exposure. Continue containment through passive disinformation and routine sweeps. Investigate potential Cold War-era sonar experiments as origin.
