Aberrations 022
Nickname: The Mouth in the Field
Danger Ranking: 4.C
First Reported: 1978-08-03 — Eastern outskirts of Chanter’s Hollow, WA
Summary:
Aberrations 022 is a large, semi-subterranean organic structure resembling an oversized human mouth, discovered in a long-abandoned wheat field. The surrounding ground has slowly grown dense with unnaturally fibrous roots and jawbone-like protrusions, which seem to "breathe" in rhythm with the aberration. Locals had referred to the area as “G9od’s Smile” for decades, though most were unaware of what lay beneath.
The mouth remains partially open most of the year, exuding warm air laced with pheromone-like compounds that cause feelings of comfort and longing. On occasion, it murmurs in a hushed, inhuman dialect not linked to any known language. When spoken to, it will sometimes respond. Sometimes it asks for things.
Known Properties:
- The mouth emits a persistent low-frequency hum, inaudible to most recording equipment but often perceived as a “lullaby” by human listeners.
- Animals refuse to approach within 100 meters. Exception: children under age 10, who are often drawn toward it.
- At unpredictable intervals, the mouth produces vocalizations that include names, confessions, and phrases known only to the listener.
- Soil samples near the anomaly contain human DNA—traced to missing persons in the region dating back to 1911.
- During seasonal shifts (spring and autumn), the lips are observed to twitch or stretch, exposing deep pink tissues and molar-like ridges farther down the throat.
- Audio recordings taken within the inner perimeter degrade into whispered confessions in unfamiliar voices after 72 hours.
Containment Procedure:
- A 1-km restricted zone surrounds the anomaly, enforced by fencing, surveillance, and permanent fog dispersal units to obscure the structure’s outline.
- Personnel entering the perimeter must wear sound-cancellation gear and carry chemical deterrents tuned to the mouth’s emitted compounds.
- Exposure to the mouth’s voice is limited to 60 seconds under strict observation. Longer exposure requires psychological quarantine.
- Soil and tissue samples to be harvested only under strict biocontainment protocols. No sample is to be transported beyond Site-13.
- Civilians found wandering near the field are to be detained and interviewed for contamination symptoms, including dream-memory crossover or spontaneous speaking in unknown languages.
Encounters:
1978-08-03 — Chanter’s Hollow, WA: Initial discovery by local children. Two went missing; one returned speaking backwards and died within the week.
1982-11-20 — Site-13: A linguistics team captured a vocal exchange in which the mouth stated, “I remember building you.” All personnel who heard the unfiltered recording experienced bleeding from the ears and hallucinations of childbirth.
1989-03-12 — Chanter’s Hollow perimeter: The mouth opened wider than ever previously observed. A voice called out in the voice of deceased Site Director Harmon. Access was denied.
Recommendation:
Do not speak to the mouth. It does not forget what you tell it.
It is not trying to fool you. It is trying to remember itself—and you are a piece of it.
